Some festival moments are made for sitting still. These are not those. Cairns Festival is serving up 10 days, 10 ways to experience it all, and DANCE is where the music takes over, feet start moving, dignity becomes optional and the festival turns into one big dance floor.
Welcome to DANCE. This is where the Main Stage gets loud, the brass kicks in, the boots come out and “I’m not really a dancer” becomes a problem for later. From First Nations sounds and big-band energy to ska, reggae, boot scooting, country-rock, live cinema, electronic beats, art-party chaos and fresh local music, these are the moments made for moving. Main Stage Gets The Festival Moving
The Cairns Festival Main Stage is where DANCE finds its feet. Across the festival, the Esplanade becomes a place for First Nations sounds, emerging local talent, live music, big brass, shared rhythm and the kind of festival moments that make standing still feel slightly rude. From Electric Fields, Tjaka and The Pad Boys to ska, reggae, disco trivia, boot scooting, art-party chaos and The Next Wave, this is where the crowd gathers, the music lifts and someone nearby starts moving first. Follow them. They know what they’re doing.
First Nations First On The Main Stage
Cairns Festival starts where it should, with First Nations artists, culture and contemporary sound taking over the Main Stage. The Pad Boys bring reggae, ska, Djabugay language and decades of local music history. Tjaka turn up the energy with lava-hot rap, blistering guitar, electronic beats and the unmistakable sound of the Didjeribone. Then Electric Fields take the night higher, merging living traditional culture with electronic music in a performance full of beauty, power and movement. From soulful pop and intimate story-songs to epic-scale electronic sound, this is opening-night energy made to be felt through the whole crowd. First Nations first. Blak excellence. Feet moving from the very beginning.

Steel Syndicate Turns Up Tank 5
Tanks Twilight Markets brings the opening night wander, but Steel Syndicate brings the movement. Taking over Tank 5 with a headline set, this brass-heavy Australian band delivers a massive live show packed with funk, soul, rock and high-energy festival firepower. Expect big sound, big personality and the kind of set that makes standing politely near the back feel like a missed opportunity. Between the markets, food, bars, galleries and pop-up performances, this is your chance to let the night build around you, then follow the brass straight to the dance floor.

Big, Brassy, Bold And Bombastic
We go big here in Festival land, and we do not disappoint for the biggest night of the year. On Grand Parade night we have Horns of Leroy, Hot Potato Band and Burger Joint, headlined by Caravana Sun. These bands do not shy away from the spotlight! Expect a joyful collision of brass, beats and festival energy. Bring the big sound, bold personalities and enough rhythm to make standing still feel like a poor decision. This one is for the dancers, the jumpers and anyone who came planning to “just have a look.”

SKA-B-Q Brings The Picnic Party
SKA-B-Q is dinner, a show and a very good excuse to claim your patch of grass. This much-loved Cairns Festival favourite brings live ska, reggae and rocksteady rhythms to the Main Stage, served with classic barbecue energy and a relaxed picnic-on-the-lawn vibe. Think island-style music, big tunes, starlit sky and the kind of beat that makes toe-tapping feel like the bare minimum. Bring a blanket. Bring an appetite. Bring someone who says they “might dance later” and give them approximately one song.

Test Your Music Memory At Disco Bingo Trivia
Disco Bingo Trivia brings the tunes, the throwbacks and the “how do I know every word to this?” energy to the Main Stage. Hosted by the Sassy Catz, this free festival night digs into Cairns’ rich music history with curly questions, nostalgic moments and plenty of reasons to sing along before you remember this is technically trivia. Come with a team, back your music knowledge and prepare for at least one person to become extremely confident and completely wrong. It is all part of the rhythm.

Rock ’N’ Roll Takes On The Machines
An original rock’n’roll + country western movie with the Eddie Ray’s and the Soulsong Choir live on stage! ‘Silence of the Jams II: Lack of Judgement Day’ hilariously fuses high-tech dystopia with old-west bravado as live music takes on the machines. In this quirky sci-fi western, the not-too-distant future is ruled by AI. Armed with nothing but his wits, guitar, and motorcycle, Eddie sets out to fight the machines and remind us what it means to be human. Local, emerging band Sunday Mistake is our musical chaser for the night.

Kick Up Your Heels With Country Struts
Country Struts Boot Scooting is not about perfect footwork. It’s about saying yes to the line dance, laughing through the steps and discovering the sweaty joy of moving in time with a crowd. Beginner-friendly and built for a good time, this is where first-timers, seasoned strutters and “I have no idea what my feet are doing” people all belong. Expect teaching sessions, band energy, bush dancing and the magic that happens when everyone gives it a go together. Dust off the boots. Or don’t. Your sneakers will cope.

Casey Barnes Brings The Country-Rock Party
Casey Barnes brings his Made For This Tour to Tanks Arts Centre for a Saturday night built for big hooks, big energy and boots that may or may not know what they are doing. One of Australia’s most in-demand country acts, Casey has racked up ARIA Awards, Golden Guitars, multiple #1 singles and millions of streams, but this is not a sit-back-and-politely-nod kind of show. Expect country-rock bangers, heartfelt moments, radio-ready favourites and enough charisma to turn the crowd into a party. Grab your mates, dust off the denim and prepare to move.

Welcome To Cairnsland
Welcome to Cairnsland, an art party at the end of the world where the rules have gone missing and the VOiiiDians have taken over. VOiiiD Collective brings a blast of creative chaos to the Main Stage, fusing dance, sound, wearable art, visual theatre and the unmistakable energy of DJ Bcharre. This is not a polite little performance. It is bold, hyper-sensory and built to shake the space around you. Expect raw movement, strange beauty, shifting realities and the kind of festival moment that makes you question what you just saw, then immediately want more. Hold onto your eyeballs. Females to the Front: Blusher
The future never looked so… female! With Zipporah Anu, Empress and headline Blusher, this night we celebrate the best Australia has to offer, right on our Festival Hub Esplanade Main Stage.
Blusher are a Melbourne supergroup poised to become your new favourite pop band. Unfiltered lyricism peppered over dreamy synths and thick baselines lands the Blusher sound somewhere between late-night solitude and a 2am dance floor.
Empress is a five-piece rock band delivering a tight, high-impact live set built for venues, supports, and festivals. Led by a strong female vocalist and backed by driving guitars and a locked-in rhythm section, the band brings control, volume, and dynamic range to the stage.
Born into the entertainment industry to beloved performers, Zipporah’s earliest core memories have been formed in rehearsal rooms, venues and on stages around the country. A proud Samu and Suy woman from Saibai Island in the Torres Strait, Zipporah has walked between two worlds – embracing both sides of her Torres Strait / Australian heritage - to build a career that has always kept her culture front of mind.

The Next Wave Takes The Main Stage
From rehearsal room to Main Stage, The Next Wave puts Cairns’ emerging original musicians in the spotlight for the Festival’s final night. Presented by Enter Stage Right, this artist development initiative gives the next generation of local performers the chance to build their sound, sharpen their skills and share their music with a festival crowd. Expect fresh voices, original songs and plenty of proud local energy as rising artists take over the Esplanade. Then Miss Tee Ketu Band steps in to carry the celebration through to the finish with funk, soul, reggae, jazz and feel-good tropical grooves. Local talent. Big stage. One very good final dance.
With Headliner Miss Tee Ketu Band to take us through to the end. Hailing from Cairns, this dynamic 8-piece band is fronted by Te Iria “Miss Tee” Ketu, a seasoned performer with over 25 years of live stage experience and more than 15 years performing with bands and as a solo artist.
Led by Miss Tee’s powerful vocals, guitar, and commanding stage presence, the band delivers a polished live show grounded in original music, soulful storytelling, and strong musicality.
