To celebrate Cairns’ 150th anniversary, the much-loved “Fun in the Sun” Grand Parade returns to the Esplanade in 2026 with a vibrant new twist.
Inspired by the city’s tropical lifestyle, colourful history and bright future, this year’s theme invites the community to capture the spirit of Cairns through bold creativity, coastal energy and sun-soaked celebration.
Think tropical colour, beachside nostalgia, reef and rainforest inspiration, community pride and all things uniquely Cairns.
From honouring the people, businesses and cultures that helped shape the city, to imagining what the next 150 years could look like, this is a chance to celebrate the heart, soul and sunshine of Cairns.
From 5.30pm, the Grand Parade takes over the Esplanade in a fabulous, feel-good procession of creativity and culture. Then, as the sun sets, look to the sky.
At 7.30pm, the night explodes into a jaw dropping fireworks spectacular over the water.
Pack your picnic rug. Bring your loudest cheer. Step into the spotlight. This is your invitation to be part of something big, bold and unmistakably Cairns.

Parking is extremely limited in the Cairns CBD on parade day. We strongly recommend carpooling and using public transport.
